This is the latest in the line of Tissue Nutrient Solution (TNS®) growth factors in a cosmeceutical product from SkinMedica®. Available in Canada from our clinic, this product is bound to be the ‘star’ of the SkinMedica® showcase for a while (it was released in 2021, in Canada). It won amongst Allure’s Best of Beauty Awards for 2019.

This innovative anti-aging solution has been designed to do more than fight wrinkles, texture and skin tone better than before. It now has the added benefit of tightening skin, especially in a preventative way.

While many products on the market claim to do ‘all of the above,’ SkinMedica® clinical studies have proven that this one did show improvements in skin laxity with regular use on test subjects.

Also in clinical studies, overall signs of aging were reduced by week two, with ongoing results continuing for 24 weeks. This is twice as fast as results seen from its predecessor product, TNS Essential Serum®.

So, whether it be for fine lines, coarse wrinkles, redness, blotchy brown spots, uneven skin tone, or loosening of the cheeks, jawline or eye circles, this product may be the fit for you!

Why is it called “Advanced +”? There are multiple reasons!

Firstly, this is a new formula of 450 growth factors, compared to the 380 that are in the previous, TNS Essential Serum® and TNS Recovery Complex®. This gives it an extra ‘boost’ of effectiveness.

Growth factors have been popular in skin care products for at least the last decade. They have the ability to ‘signal’ your body’s own skin cell ‘factories.’ Studies have shown their ability to reduce wrinkles, redness, hyperpigmentation and more.

Now, chemists have revised the culturing process by which epidermal growth factors are extracted for use in skin care. The new solution contains a feature that has been coined as “Multipotent Resignaling.” In essence, this creates a more potent, and thus, more effective collection of growth factors.

The cosmetic formulators at SkinMedica® also got rid of the need for any fragrance or colour in this product. They had to change the growth factor proteins in order to do this. This makes it suitable for sensitive skin, and a lot calmer for all other skin types. The new growth factor mix is called “TNS®-MR” (where “MR” stands for “Multipotent Resignaling”).

The other major change is with a new, ‘second chamber’ serum to go along with the advanced growth factor product. Coined as “Renessence (RSC) Advanced,” this formula includes added peptides and plant extracts to further condition skin. It is designed to work in tandem with TNS®-MR, for further benefits to the skin.

A few helpful things to know about this product

Unlike previous TNS® growth factor products by SkinMedica®, this one is fragrance-free and colourless.

If you react strongly to retinol, a growth factor product like this one may be a more tolerable skin care product. It can have the same intended effects as retinol. If your skin can handle both products at once, all the better!

Notable skin care ingredients

Above, we’ve ‘painted a broad stroke’ to explain the ingredients in this product. If you’d like to know more, see below! We go into detail on some of what you can find in this two-chamber bottle, collectively:

Human fibroblast conditioned media – this is the TNS®-MR growth factor solution, noted above.

Lactococcus ferment lysate – this is a probiotic skin immunity strengthener. It can help with epidermal cell renewal, which wanes as we get older, and as environmental stressors ‘attack’ our skin (e.g. UV rays, soaps, microbes, temperature changes). In other words, it is intended to speed up our body’s continual skin rebuilding processes. This would cause it to function like younger skin, thus offering an anti-aging effect. It’s also known as ProRenew Complex CLR™.

Chlorella vulgaris extract – this is an algae extract that is abundant in antioxidants,  carotenoids and amino acids (i.e. precursors to collagen formation in the skin). It helps to protect against skin damage (including pigmentation), which can lead to faster development of the signs of aging.

Trifluoroacetyl tripeptide-2 – this is a peptide made of 3 amino acids. It was specifically engineered (and confirmed) to tighten and firm sagging skin, especially on the jawline. It was shown to bring back this sign of youthfulness in a short period of time. It’s also known as Progeline™.

Dimer tripeptide-43 – this is a patent-pending, “biofunctional” tripeptide designed to reduce protein damage, and thus, signs of aging. It’s also known as Prolixir S20™.

Hydrolyzed linseed extract – also known as flax seed, this ingredient helps to condition, soften and repair the skin, so it can function properly.

Vitis vinifera (grape) flower cell extract – grapes are wonderful sources of flavanols. In cosmetics, this ingredient is multi-use; it is an antioxidant, anti-microbial agent, and even has some sun protection properties.

Pyrus malus (apple) fruit extract – this is a type of apple extract, to provide antioxidants that help fight free radicals in the skin. Free radicals are what cause our skin to age. Learn more, here.

Tocopheryl acetate – this is a stable form of vitamin E, acting as an antioxidant, to fight free radical damage.

Whey protein – this ingredient contains amino acids, which help your skin produce collagen. In turn, this helps to condition (i.e. hydrate, moisturize) your skin, giving it a smoother appearance.

Shea butter ethyl esters – this is a lighter, less greasy form of shea butter, to help moisturize the skin without feeling ‘heavy,’ like traditional shea would.

Lecithin – this is a water-binder and emollient, it is used to condition and restore skin.

Saccharide isomerate – this is a water-binding humectant that moisturizes particularly well over long periods of time.

Plus, additional moisturizers, antioxidants and ingredients to help your skin absorb the serum better, such as propanediol and ethoxydiglycol.
