This is not just a foundation with effortless, natural-looking coverage. Its formula contains peptides and ceramides to moisturize your skin and improve texture. That said, it is still a mineral-based makeup product, containing beneficial titanium dioxide, zinc oxide and iron oxides, to protect from visible and invisible light rays. It is great for aging skin, or dry skin that would feel too flaky with a powder foundation. Those with normal skin can also use this for a slightly creamier, still-matte look to their makeup base.
As a mineral liquid foundation, it’s very high quality. It’s notable because of what it doesn’t contain, just as much as what it does contain; there are no parabens, mineral oils, talcs, dyes, drying alcohols, phthalates or synthetic fragrances in this tube.
A few helpful things to know about this product:
This is a ‘whipped’ mineral foundation. Because of that, it goes on airily and doesn’t have that ‘heavy’ or ‘sticky’ feeling that may come with typical liquid foundations. However, if you are looking for a powder foundation, try Natural Finish Pressed Foundation SPF 20, also by Colorescience®.
The finish on the Tint du Soleil™ foundation is a matte one. But, it does have some mica in it, for a bit of shine. That said, users of this product say that it goes on ‘naturally,’ meaning, it almost feels like you’re not wearing makeup (which is a good thing). It’s not quite as light as a tinted sunscreen, however.
For sheer to medium coverage, start with just two pumps of this foundation. Then, build up from there if you need more. If you will be in the sun, use more, or layer it with a base sunscreen.
This product is water resistant for up to 40 minutes. Be sure to reapply if you’ve been wet that long, and if you’re using this for sun protection.
Keep this product out of your eyes, and stop using it if you experience any irritation. Check the ingredients list for items you may be allergic to. Don’t use it if you find something that may trigger known reactions on you, such as the milk lipids, or otherwise.
To get fuller coverage, you can also start with a tinted SPF base. Colorescience® makes these as skin treatments, too. Try:
- Even Up® Clinical Pigment Perfector® SPF 50 (this may help to correct complexion issues).
- All Calm™ Clinical Redness Corrector SPF 50 (this calms redness and provides a slight green undertone for colour balance).
- Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Face Shield SPF 50 (this is an advanced, mineral sunscreen with added environmental protection).
For an untinted, mineral sunscreen base, try:
- Daily Physical Defense® Sunscreen SPF 34 by SkinMedica®.
You’ll probably get better results when using mineral sunscreens alongside mineral makeup, as opposed to mixing chemical sunscreens with mineral makeup.
After you’ve applied your makeup, follow up with Sunforgettable® Total Protection™ Brush-on Shield SPF 50. This top-layer, brush-on formula helps you reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours, even when you’re wearing makeup.
Notable skin care ingredients:
Tocopheryl acetate – a stable form of vitamin E, which fights free radicals as an antioxidant.
Retinyl palmitate – a form of vitamin A, acting as an antioxidant.
Sodium ascorbyl phosphate – a stable, water-soluble form of vitamin C, which acts as an antioxidant and skin lightener. It may also help to fight acne.
Palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 – peptides like these help to instigate collagen production in your skin, to fight off wrinkles and dullness. They are popular anti-aging ingredients in skin care.
Ceramide NP – ceramides like this one help to ‘build up’ your skin’s structure. They are essential in anti-aging, moisturization and for healthy-looking skin. Ceramides are naturally found in your skin, where they coat your skin cells with a fat layer.
Lactis lipida (milk lipids) – a moisturizing ingredient.
Jojoba esters – from the jojoba plant, these help to soften and moisturize the skin.
Plus several other plant extracts, skin smoothers and moisturizers.
