In our article on the cost of CoolSculpting® in Vancouver, we mentioned that when it comes to getting value out of your fat freezing treatment, the handpiece matters. In this article, we’ll explain more about how CoolSculpting® applicators work.
If you’ve been shopping for a Vancouver CoolSculpting® provider, you may notice that they don’t all carry a full stock of applicators (i.e. handpieces). Nor do they all carry the most recent ones, which come with technological advances.
These applicators, along with advanced training, are the ‘magic beans’ that can reach more types of body fat for better, more comprehensive cryolipolysis.
In the past, the main CoolSculpting® applicators were CoolCore, CoolCurve+, CoolMax and CoolFit.
However, there are now more modern CoolSculpting® applicators. The newer applicators are part of the CoolAdvantage™ system. These include:
The CoolAdvantage™
This is a medium-sized applicator that comes with three attachments intended to treat different types of fat on the body (described below, they are CoolFit, CoolCore and CoolCurve+).
The CoolAdvantage™ is one of the most-used handpieces for CoolSculpting® fat removal. This is because it is so versatile, and often just the right size for many treatment areas.
Its cycle options (i.e. attachments) include:
CoolFit Advantage™
35 minute treatment
This setup is typically used for inner thigh fat removal. This is an upgrade to the older CoolFit™ applicator, which takes 1 hour.
CoolCore Advantage™
35 minute treatment
This setup is typically used around the abdominal area, to help it appear more muscular. It is an upgrade to the older CoolCore™ applicator, which takes 1 hour.
CoolCurve+ Advantage™
35 minute treatment
This setup is used for curved areas, typically the waist where you have flanks, love handles, muffin tops, etc.
The CoolAdvantage Plus™
The CoolAdvantage Plus™ is a larger version of the CoolAdvantage™ applicator. It comes with two attachment heads. It can thus treat larger areas of the body.
Its cycle options (i.e. attachments) include:
CoolCore Advantage Plus™
45 minute treatment
This setup is typically used as a large ‘debulking’ treatment, to rid the body of bigger bulges, so that finer work can be done after the fact. It’s often used on the abdomen. It is an upgrade to the older, CoolMax™ which takes 75 minutes.
CoolCurve Advantage Plus™
45 minute treatment
This setup is also used for the abdomen, targeting lose belly fat, hip fat, arm fat and even chest fat (i.e. ‘man boobs’).
CoolAdvantage™ Petite
35 minute treatment
This applicator is the smallest of the three CoolSculpting® applicators listed so far. It can also use the CoolFit, CoolCore and CoolCurve+ attachment heads, for versatile treatments.
The CoolAdvantage™ Petite is often used when targeting hard-to-reach, smaller pockets of fat. For example, it can treat the arms, inner thighs, back of thighs (banana rolls), and upper back bra areas.
CoolMini™
35 minute treatment
This applicator is specially designed for use under the chin, to get rid of ‘double chin’ fat. It’s also used for front bra bulges, and for knees. It does not use separate attachment heads.
CoolSmooth PRO™
1 hour treatment
This applicator is typically used for outer thighs (saddle bags) and fibrous fat on the abdomen and flanks. This is a flat applicator that does not use vacuum suction, which all the other CoolSculpting® applicators require.
How are the newer CoolSculpting® applicators better than the old ones?
With the newer CoolSculpting® applicators, patients get a more comfortable, effective treatment. These appliators have the advantages of:
Much shorter treatment times
The Advantage™ applicators deliver temperatures 1°C cooler than older applicators. This freezes the treatment area faster, and thus reduces treatment times by 25-50% (e.g. a former 1 hour treatment could now take 35 minutes).
The cooling system is also more efficient since it uses real time monitoring to ensure the fat pocket is being frozen evenly.
Fewer side effects after treatments
The newer handpieces don’t require as much suction for fat to make contact with their cooling surfaces. This results in fewer bruises and less soreness afterwards.
More fat removed per cycle
The Advantage™ applicators feature an enhanced design to allow more surface area to reach their cooling mechanisms. Therefore, larger areas can be treated in a single cycle.
Why is it important to use multiple CoolSculpting® applicators?
You’ll notice that many of the above handpieces and their attachments can overlap in their application. For example, the CoolAdvantage™ can treat the stomach area, but so can the CoolAdvantage™ Plus. The CoolAdvantage™ can treat inner thighs, as can the CoolAdvantage™ Petite.
So what’s the difference between them? Why do we need all of them?
It all comes down to each person’s unique body shape, and the shape they want to achieve. Not everyone has the same amount of fat, nor the same curves on each part of their body.
Some people need larger areas to be debulked before finer work can be done with smaller applicators. Some people have ‘hard’ fat in areas that require flatter handpieces and attachments.
And when it comes to contouring, some people want the hourglass shape, whereas others want a more masculine, ‘straight’ or ‘triangle’ shape.
You can see that with so many different treatment scenarios, body sculpting is far from a ‘one size fits all’ approach (literally!).
Sometimes, technicians need to do ‘overlapping’ treatments on a single area. They start with one applicator and attachment combo, and end with another. This helps to achieve the right anatomical shape for their patient.
When a medical aesthetic clinic has multiple applicators and attachments on hand, they can better customize treatments to suit your specific needs. Otherwise, they’ll only be able to take you a ‘short distance’ in your fat removal ‘journey.’
Or worse: you’ll get the wrong treatments for your type of fat. If that happens, you either won’t see results, or you’ll find your curves looking ‘odd.’
Get the best CoolSculpting® treatments with CoolAdvantage™ applicators
As we’ve seen above, CoolSculpting® applicators come in different sizes to reach different types of fat on the body. The newer ones are far more comfortable for patients. They also work faster, and treat larger areas at a time.
CoolSculpting® applicators mean a lot when it comes to getting the best fat freezing treatments out there. It’s important to go with a clinic that not only has the right training, but also the right tools to do their job effectively.
