Chemical Peel Treatments

For many years chemical peels have been performed in order to give the skin a fresher, younger appearance. Over the years many different peeling substances have been used, and newer techniques and technologies now offer safe and effective ways to improve the texture of the skin.

What is the goal of chemical peeling?

Chemical peels help improve the texture and appearance of the skin. They are useful for fine wrinkles and for age and sunlight induced areas of discoloration or roughness. A chemical peel will not correct deep wrinkles or loose skin, but it is a rapid means of enhancing your overall appearance.

How is a chemical peel performed?

Chemical peeling is a procedure performed in the office, after which the patient returns home .We cleanse your skin to remove all oils, dirt and soap traces. Then the peeling solution or solutions are carefully applied to the appropriate areas. For some, this may be a full face peel, which would cover the entire face. Others may need a partial peel, such as around the mouth for those fine, vertical lines, the forehead for horizontal wrinkles, or on cheeks for fine wrinkles and age spots. The treatment may be accompanied by some stinging or a mild burning sensation. Depending upon the peel treatment you may see that the skin will become somewhat red, and a little swollen and flaky (similar to a sunburn) for a few days. About one in ten patients will have some brown patches, which peel off within 7-10 days. During the healing process the cells that are shed are replaced by a fresh new skin surface. After healing there may be some temporary mild pinkness that gradually fades and can be diminished by makeup.

Who is a good candidate for a chemical peel?

Each person undergoes a careful assessment of skin type prior to determined which peel , if any, would be suitable for them. People that have Rosacea, pigmentation, Acne or want to rejuvenate their skin would all benefit from chemical peeling. Every peel also includes suggestions for proper home care and Sun protection.

What type of products do you use?

We use Physicians Choice of Arizona and Dermalogica products for our peels. They utilize Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) and lactic acid as a basis for the peels rather than the traditional Glycolic Acid Peels. The Lactic Acid is used primarily because it is well received by the body and is moisturizing. Some of the peel treatment solutions are only available to Physicians for use.

How do I know if a peel is right for me?

The best way to learn if a peel treatment may be useful for your skin care is to book an appointment for a VISIA SKIN EVALUATION by calling our office. We will do a skin analysis and based upon that and your needs we will customize a program for you.
